MEET OUR PASTORS

Adrian Schoonmaker

Senior Pastor

Pastor Adrian and Joyce come from the East Coast, where Adrian grew up in New England and Joyce in Virginia. Overseas missions runs deep in their blood, having traveled and ministered in 33 nations, leading young people and adults in reaching people with the Gospel. Their passion for discipleship, leadership development, and ministry to college students led to many years of ministry at America’s leading universities, including the Ivy League schools, Stanford, and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Adrian and Joyce deeply value the work of the Holy Spirit in people’s lives, and Adrian often talks about his heartbeat “to see the Book of Acts happening in the Tri-Cities.” His most frequent prayer is for a church leadership marked by Isaiah 11:2-5, and to see a Great Awakening in our region, marked by many thousands of souls being transformed by the presence and power of Jesus Christ.

Pastor Adrian carries two master’s degrees (M.A., Journalism and M.A., Practical Theology). After completing his research for a doctoral degree in Leadership and Renewal at Regent University, Adrian also earned a D.Min. (ABD) in Leadership & Ministry Management from Trinity (TEDS) in Chicago. Joyce’s undergraduate degree is in Youth Ministry, with certification in TESOL; she is looking forward to completing her master’s degree in seminary.

Adrian and Joyce have six children — two elementary schoolers, one high schooler, and three in college at: Biola University (L.A.), University of Valley Forge (Philad.), and Virginia Tech (Blacksburg, Va.).

James Barton

Youth and Young Adults Pastor

Born and raised in Southern California, James began serving in vocational ministry in 2018 and has been a licensed pastor since 2020. Throughout his ministry journey, he has been involved in worship ministry, youth ministry, young adult ministry, and church planting, developing a deep passion for seeing the next generation encounter Jesus and thrive in an authentic relationship with Him through spiritual formation and discipleship.

Growing up in a Christian home, James accepted Jesus as his Savior at 5 years old, but at 19 experienced a radical life change that led him to fully surrender his life to Christ as Lord. That transformation continues to shape the way he leads, pastors, and invests in people today. James believes there is no “Junior Holy Spirit” meaning the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is alive and active in the next generation, empowering them to live boldly and carry out the mission of Jesus to make disciples that make disciples.

James is married to his wife, Kaitlyn, and together they are raising their two boys, Jude and Bodie. Family is one of his greatest joys, and outside of ministry, he enjoys golfing, working out, spending time with family, and cheering on his beloved Angels baseball team.

Before ministry, James was a college baseball player and later coached high school baseball for two years. His background in sports continues to influence his leadership style through teamwork, encouragement, discipline, and a heart to help people grow into who God has called them to be.
